| The Visitation by Frank Peretti is full of artistic suspense and intrigue. This is the style of Frank Peretti. He offers ’painted pictures’ for the mind. You are there in ’his diners’ or in the town squares of his books. And when you think you have a handle on his characters, he will surprise you again...and again. Frank Peretti is a writer of Christian genre fiction. But, he is often on the best seller list of both secular and Christian reading material. He simply attracts all readers who love suspense. And he has the ability to keep his work interesting until the end. He is married and has four children and lives around the southwest U.S. I have read many works of his, including the spine tingling The Oath and Piercing the Darkness. He is an author who has ’settled in’, at my home library. In The Visitation you will find, in a small town {Frank loves to use small towns, just like yours or mine} that a certain Crucifix is weeping and people are finding supernatural healings. They also see someone, in the clouds or bushes, even a simple diner sign. This town is Antioch, and it has become the gateway for supernatural happenings. Angels, messianic images, other ’unbelieveable’ sightings, have come upon the town. But, Travis Jordan is NOT buying into it. And he is not sure what healed his crippled friend or gave vision to another. Travis must deal with life of ’good and evil’ in his small town as he confronts the VISITOR. There are 30 chapters in this book, 519 pages, and an Epilogue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ever wonder how people get sucked into these cults that brainwash them into doing bizarre things like wearing Nikes and committing suicide in anticipation of a coming UFO? The Visitation isn't about Waco or Jonesboro, its a fictional story about a man that turns a small town called Antioch upside down with his "miracles". Some say he is Jesus, others think he is an angel, and everyone is affected by this seemingly divine person. Everyone except Travis Jordan, an ex-preacher who has been a recluse for 10 months mourning for his wife, and on the verge of loosing his faith. The battle Travis engages in with this mysterious stranger, not only for the town, but for himself is riveting. The final confrontation will have you holding your breath with every turn of the page. Its not without its comic relief. I laughed out loud picturing Dee Baylor, one of the town's busy bodies being asked to stop getting so "overcome with the Spirit" that she fainted at every church service. The story tells how different people of Antioch get taken in by this mysterious stranger, by simply filling a void that each one of them has. Just as, I'm sure, brainwashed members of cults have in real life. Of course this man is charming, and witty and always knows what to say. The sheep wouldn't come to the wolf is he wasn't good at his role, would they? People are traveling for miles to see this "miracle worker" But the town quickly turns to chaos as this man's followers start to buy into Satan's lies. The Visitation is an excellent book I would recommend to Christians, and non-Christians alike. It is every bit as suspenseful as the books you would find on the secular best seller list. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Visitation. This is the first christian thriller I had ever read and it was intense. Before I became a christian I read a lot of Stephen King and that sort of stuff. I was thinking that a christian fictional book couldn't be all that good, could it? Boy was I wrong! The book starts out with a back slidden christian who got gospel burnout and was spending the remainder of his life in seclusion. Then, in his little home town, strange things start to happen. A bleeding crucifix, signs in the sky, major miracles, etc. Then, a new guy appears in town and then the fun starts. I won't tell you much more than that because I want you to go get it and read it yourself! I will tell you that if your a Steven King fan, you will like this book. Secular and non will enjoy the suspense, the heart pounding, page turning features. I couldn't put it down. I am now going to read his other books. I hear they are just as good. |
