| DR. CLAUDE SWANSON
Dr. Swanson is an MIT and Princeton educated physicist. He has worked as a conventional applied physicist for more than twenty years, and has conducted extensive research into the physics of the paranormal. This research has involved underwater archaeology in Biminis, scientific measurements in haunted houses, experiments in remote viewing and psychokinesis, and testing of new devices which can measure these strange forces. He has also written a book, The Synchronized Universe-New Science of the Paranormal, describing the scientific revolution he believes is underway. SPEAKING SCHEDULE |
| Swanson will take us on a voyage into a new era of science. Although he believes that Old beliefs die hard, he shows us an exciting, much larger world out there waiting for the “new physics” to sail into it…an exciting world with undreamed-of possibilities.
Swanson states in his book, “The Synchronized Universe- New Science of the Paranormal”, in the early days of a scientific revolution, the evidence is always incomplete. Just as during the time when electricity was first studied, it is seldom possible to rely solely on rigorous scientific experiments. Before there was a Michael Faraday in his laboratory, meticulously measuring and quantifying the electric and magnetic force so accurately, there was a Benjamin Franklin with his kite in a thunderstorm. And before that, there were five thousand years of people walking across carpets on dry days and receiving electrical shocks. Before the rigorous scientific research came the anecdote, the story and the example. Appropriate instruments to measure paranormal phenomena will probably evolve as our understanding of the phenomena evolves. This is how it was with electricity and with gravity, as well as with the nuclear forces. Until we reach that stage, it is important that we include a liberal sprinkling of anecdotes and accounts by credible individuals of their anomalous experiences. These experiences are like Franklin and his kite. They demonstrate that a phenomenon is there, and that it has certain general characteristics. It is the first step in developing a scientific understanding. There is a sufficiently large body of such first-person data by highly credible witnesses that it should not be discounted. This date provided important clues which can help science to feel its way to a more systematic and rigorous approach in the future. Unfortunately, in the beginning of a paradigm shift, most scientists have no interest in conducting experiments on these “outlandish” topics. They know that if they do, they will lose their funding, be unable to publish, and may even find their academic careers in jeopardy. Control of Research funding has become highly centralized, with the U.S. government controlling most pure research money. In some cases this money is controlled by groups of scientists with vested interest in their own long-standing research areas. In other cases, military secrecy prevents controversial new, potentially powerful technologies from being funded in an open, public forum. Scientists along with the American public have been educated to view these areas of anomalous research with contempt and ridicule, which further compounds the difficulty in addressing this phenomenon with rigorous and unbiased scientific analysis. All these factors contribute to the absences of a completely satisfying study of these topics.
