I copied this photo off their newspaper- but you can still see the double images showing a different facial expressions on the same person - For more Photos of People Stepping into the Portals Click Here Mary Sutherland ) Its the time of year to scare ourselves again and THE WEEK recently took a field trip to very unique county area haunted happening that could be the perfect destination for any group which is feeling the season. Haunted tours of Burlington are available by request for a minimal fee by Brad and Mary Sutherland, world renowned researcheres of interdimensional and paranormal phenomena, who own and operate the Burlington UFO and Paranormal Center (BUFO) in downtown Burlington. The tours include any combinatin of a night walk through the haunted woods, a stop at the haunted cemetery and maybe even a peek at a few undergorund tunnels. The Sutherlands prove their various findings - UFOs , hauntings, crop circle3s, paranormal activities, etc. - with what they call the test of three: science, experience and photographs. "If the work can pass this test, we feel we have something," their Web Site says. The Sutherlands began these tours just a year ago to, "Put the belief into the non-believer," Mary says, "People are always thrilled after doing on of our tours. Many return with more of their friends and family members." And that is too true. Since our trip, many acquaintances and family members have voiced their desire to do just that. And just because Halloween is only a week away, not to worry - the tours go all year through. The tour starts at the BUFO Store, with Mary giving a short talk about what the expect, where the tour will take you and some of the things that past tours have experienced. Then it's time to pile into cars and head for the woods. Everyone lines up behind Mary, nerves building, and head off into the darkness. Along the way she tells of past experiences in the places that the group is passing through and describes the feelings that people generally get when entities are nearby.; "Some people feel chills," she said. "Others get warm and many people feel pressure on their foreheads- where the third eye is located." According to Mary, each person has a third eye directly between their two 'regular' eyes, raised slightly up on the forehead area. Isis, the Egyptian high priestess, is known for having possessed a seeable third eye. Tour-takers, about 15, in all, began to say they were feeling phenomena in some of the hot spots through the trail as it led to the Manitou stones. "Manitou or spirit stones were once common," wrote Herman E. Bender of the Mid-America Geographic Foundation, Inc. in 'Manitou Stones in Wisconsin' "The stones together with their physical setting were considered sacred." Early missionaries were ordered to destroy any Manitou stone formations, Mary said. But a surprising number have survived. "The Alqonquin speaking people (e.g. Chippewa, Menominee, Potawatomi, Ottawa, Sauk and Fox and Miami) of North America's eastern woodlands had a name or word for 'presence' or supernatural power...(the stones) possess 'Manitou' " Bender wrote. "A certain quality remains as they still retain the power vested in them." At the stones, tour-takers sit on the ancient stones and meditate. There's a peaceful feeling about the area and everyone gets very quiet. Feeling and seeing paranormal activity is up to the individual, according to Mary. "The magic around us that most never see or experience. Many say they have to see before they believe, but reality is based on your belief structure; thus you have to believe in order to truly see." After a time, some tour-takers said they felt more in touch with the feelings Mary earlier described. One man complains of a strong headache, a woman breaks out into a cold sweat and another says she's suddenly freezing. Afterward, all gather back at BUFO and view the photographs taken by Mary throughout the evening. Bizarre double images, orbs, lights and streaks don most of them. Tour-takeres reminisce about the feelings they were having as certain peculiar shots were taken. Over an hour is spent reliving the experience and discussing various paranormal subjects with the pro. Overall, tour-takers agreed that the experience was worth a repeat performance and all asked were pleased with the evening events. For the pessimists, Mary holds no disregard or judgment. "We each have a right to our own reality," she said. And for them and everyone else, she says, "Trust in your instincts, liten to the small children (and) learn to live in the magic of life." Any one is welcome to schedule a tour and can do so by calling BUFO at 262 767 2864 , stopping in for a visit at 549 N. Pine Street , Burlington or emailing them at bsutherland@wi.rr.com. Tours are available year-round, perferably on Friday and Saturday nights , 8 - 10 p.m. , plus an hour to view the photos taken, but the Sutherlands are willing to schedule private tours during the week. The cost is $15 per person. CDs of the photos taken are available for $5. Young Children are not recommended to take the tour. For more information on the Sutherland's studies, check into BUFO Radio, which focuses on Earth mysteries, their online newspaper and BUFO Web sites at www.burlingtonnews.net Another very interesting way to meet Brad is to tune into the Discovery Channel on Halloween night at 8 p.m. to see Brad, Jesse James and the Monster Garage Crew build a crop circle fabricator designed to debunk the debunkers. Will they fool them? Also, keep an eye on a future One Step Beyond to see Mary interviewed about her extraterrestrial visit she encountered while living in Arizona. |
