      RIVER OF THE DEAD

White River is where the Mormons of
the Vohee Area did their baptizing for
the dead. You can locate the area by
standing at the Bridge in Burlington
and looking to the South.
This River and the Fox River are the
two rivers flowing through Burlington.
It then was ideal to use in travel
because the Fox River's currents flowed
into town and the White River's
currents flowed our of town, north.

URGENT..REQUESTING HELP PROTECTING THE INDIAN MOUNDS OF
BURLINGTON WISCONSIN

BACK TO BURLINGTON WISCONSIN UFO AND PARANORMAL CENTER

To Whom this concerns:

I have a problem Iam hoping you can help me with.
I have recently discovered that the historic town of Burlington WI has been built over a
sacred burial site.
Now the town is undergoing a lot of road construction and from what I can see, the graves
of the native american ancestors are going to be destroyed in this process.
The burial site , naturally, has been kept secret so that no one knows about it, but for
obvious reasons , I believe, the spirit has provided me with this informaton.
What I need help in is to try to protect these burial sites. I can not do this myself being that
I have no authorization or authority over such matters. I plea to you to help me find
someone with the authority to contact me on this matter and check out my discovery.
Hopefully with your help we can if not stop them from destroying their graves, we can at
least find a new resting place other than behind the blade of a bulldozer.
Yours Respectfully,
Mary Sutherland

Historical Society's vice president
This area was home to the Potowatomi tribe.
Their name for Browns Lake was Lake of the
Shining Arrow. An early map of Racine and
Kenosha Counties shows some Indian trails.
Several led to Mukwonago, which was an
important Potowatomi village.

Burlington, the town of many names,

Burlington is a researchers nightmare, being that
the name has been changed so many times. But I
think I have finally pinned down most of the
names it has been coined, with the exception of
the Indian Town that was here prior.

In July 1836, E.D. Putnam of Southport
(Kenosha) was hired by Enoch D. Woodbridge
to supervise the surveying and laying out of lots.
At its completion, a group decided it was time
to give the town an official name. Putnam was
chosen for the honor in light of his hard work.
He was from Vermont and thought that
Foxville, with its beautiful location and scenery,
was reminiscent of Vermont’s beautiful city,
Burlington. A unanimous vote confirmed the
town’s new name. However, the post office
remained Foxville until July 15, 1839.    The
area was earlier known as Drovers Forks and
Lower Forks (Rochester was known as Upper
Forks). and is also linked to the veiled Mormon
city Vorhee.
