Greek poet Homer wrote in 400 B.C. 1891 A Giant was unearthed when workmen in Crittenden, Arizona excavated a stone coffin that once held the body of a man approximately 12 feet tall. A carving on the granite case indicated that he had twelve toes . 1923, Samuel Hubbard, discovered the remains of giants in the Grand Canyon of Arizona. He found petrified bodies of two human beings about 18 and 15 feet in height respectively. One of these was buried under a recent rock fall which would require several days' work to remove; the other, of which Mr. Hubbard took photographs, is in a crevice of difficult accessibility. The bodies are formed of a limestone petrification embedded in sandstone. Paul Horgan (Great River: The Rio Grande in North American History) reported a pueblo myth or story about a cannibal giant that once lived in a cave on the north side of the black mesa near San Ildefonso Pueblo. "His cave was connected with the interior of the vast, houselike mesa by tunnels which took him to his rooms. His influence upon the surrounding country was heavy.
