THE EARTH AGES AND THE SEVEN EPOCHS Continued from Map1 The Sun Ages were initiated by the planets and during each time great catastrophes took place , changing the face of earth and mankind. According to Hesiod, the Golden Age was ruled by the Planet Saturn sith the Silver and Iron Ages being ruled by Jupiter. The Golden Age, ruled by Saturn was a time before Agriculture. According to Vergil, it is said that “before Jove’s day, which was when Saturn reigned, no tillers subdued the land—even to mark the field or divide it with bounds was unlawful.” The idea that the Earth was under the reign and influence of different planets at different ages was and is a common teaching of not only the Hebrew, but the Magi, Gnostic sects and other secret societies. Found in the writings of Julius Africanus: the Ages of the Ancestors passed under the government of the planets, each in its turn.Again, found in the Ethiopian text of the First Book of Enoch, the seven world-ages were each dominated by one planet. The gnostic sect of the Mandaeans taught in its holy book Sidra Rabba that the history of mankind is composed of seven epochs, that these epochs were terminated by catastrophes, and that one of the planets ruled in each epoch. The Days of Creation and Days of the Calendar are memorials to the Seven Ages that were governed by each of the seven planets in succession, The First to the Sixth Day repesents the times of Creation. The Seventh Day represents the time when creation was complete and God in his Heaven rested. (From the events taking place during this time, it indicates that the Sabbath took place at the end of the Middle Kingdom and during the time of the Exodus.) It was in the ceremonies on the Seventh Day, The Sabbath, in which our ancestors implored the creators to refrain from futher reshaping of the earth. After more than two thousand five hundred years of passing , the Cosmic meaning behind the Sabbath was lost, leaving only the social idea of rest. PLANETS DEIFIED Although the ancients knew that the planets physically were nothing other than large masses of rocks, deification was given to them. The reason for the deification for these planets lay in the awe and great reverance our ancestors had for them. They had personally witnessed the horrors and destruction these planets brought on them. This is expressed in a Mandaean text: “How cruel are the planets that stay there and conspire evil in their rage . . . the planets conspire in rage against us.” The planet Venus was deified because of its dramatic appearance and because of the havoc it brought to the world, as described in Worlds in Collision. It also illuminated the events which made Mars such a feared god. In the Persian holy books it is said that “on the planets depends the existence or non-existence of the world—wherefore they are especially to be venerated.” According to a Nabatean Inscription, “The seven planets rule the universe. ” In the Greek and Roman tradition, " everything is, in fact, subject to the changes brought about by the revolutions of the stars.” Through the study of the ancient Hebrew traditions, we learn that there are seven archangels, each of whom is associated with a planet. The seven archangels were believed to play an important part in the universal order through their associations with the planets. THE ISLAND EARTH - THE BIRTH OF THE MOON I think that one of the mistakes that most people today make is in the thinking that the earth of ancient times was like that of today. This is far from being true. In fact, it was very different. At one time, there was no continents. Earth was a large mass of land surrounded by water, a very large island. (Africa seems to have been situated almost right in the middle of this mass). Being that all the peoples of earth were located on the same land mass and experienced the same events, it is logical that we find and hear the same stories and traditions in all the remote localities of the earth. The heavens were also very different during ancient times. Through ancient records and oral history, we can now begin to piece together how the heavens and earth changed and importantly how a few managed to survive these cataclysms. The Ancients deified seven plants ; the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. According to ancient traditions, the Age of Uranus ruled before the Age of Saturn. Saturn , removed or 'emasculated' his father Uranus. For this reason, the Romans represent Saturn with a sickle in his hands. The practice of 'circumcision' may have originated as an emulation of this act being displayed in the sky. When it appeared that Saturn with a sickle emasculated Uranus, the Egyptians and Hebrews introduced circumcision - with the removal of the foreskin being subsituted for castration. Prior to Saturn castrating his father, man witnessed earth without a moon. According to Hesiod, the catastrophe described as the removal of Uranus by Saturn gave birth to Aphrodite, the moon. . In the book, Worlds in Collision, Velikovsky identified Aphrodite with the Moon . Macrobius in the Fouth Century AD , referring to ancient authorities, affirmed that Aphrodite was indeed the Moon. THE EARTH WITHOUT THE MOON Although, the period in which the earth was without a moon comes from the most remote recollection of mankind, there is ample documentation to support such claims. Democritus and Anaxagoras taught that there was a time when the Earth was without the Moon. Aristotle wrote that Arcadia in Greece, before being inhabited by the Hellenes, had a population of 'Pelasgains' and that these aborigines occupied the land already before there was a moon in the sky above the Earth. (It was for this reason they were called 'Proselenes'. ) Apollonius of Rhodes mentioned the time “when not all the orbs were yet in the heavens. It was 'before the Danai and Deukalion Races' came into existence. Only the 'Arcadians' lived who dwelt on mountains and fed on acorns, before there was a moon.” Plutarch wrote in The Roman Questions: “There were Arcadians of Evander’s following, the so-called pre-Lunar people.” Ovid wrote, “The Arcadians are said to have possessed their land before the birth of Jove, and the folk is older than the Moon.” Hippolytus refers to a legend that “Arcadia brought forth Pelasgus, of greater antiquity than the moon.” Lucian in his Astrology says that “the Arcadians affirm in their folly that they are older than the moon.” From the book, Pelasgians, by Daphne Elliott it is written: " Before recorded Time, but during an active migration era of prehistoric Greece (c. 10,000 BCE), a people came into the Pelaponnesus, presumably from the north, and settled around the eastern Mediterranian coast and its islands, Sicily, Lamapadusa etc. They were called "Pelasgians," which has several specific meanings, depending on which tranlation one might be reading. The word pelasgian means from the sea. It also means hairy. And to top it all, it means springing from the earth... sticks embedded in the earth that spring up in human form to populate their surroundings. From this we can conjure up a race of people that came from the sea, wore beards, and were "indigenous." Hence, they were the aborigines who settled the Pelaponnesus, coming before the Dorians. One might say they were the aboriginal ancestors of what we now call "Hellenes" -- today's Greeks as they have come down through the ages. The Pelasgians were successful in establishing themselves and their culture in the land and sea. Apparently they espoused the existing cult worship of Hera, as there is still to be seen the ruins of a Temple dedicated to Hera which they built. They are credited also with being admirable house builders, taking a different approach from the old, cramped design. Instead of a hut, they used large stones for the base making a drier, more lasting habitat, which was quickly adopted by their neighbors. They remain important in the grand sweep of Greek pre-history. Some ancient myths are even said to have begun with them. The myth of Helios' harnessing the sun to his chariot is said to date back to the Pelasgians. " Censorinus also alludes to the time in the past when there was no moon in the sky. Biblical Scriptures also support the time before the moon: Job 25:5 the grandeur of the Lord who “Makes peace in the heights” is praised and the time is mentioned “before [there was] a moon and it did not shine.” Psalm 72:5 it is said: “Thou wast feared since [the time of] the sun and before [the time of] the moon, a generation of generations.” A “generation of generations” means a very long time. The memory of a world without a moon also lives in oral tradition among the Indians. For example, the Indians of the Bogota Highlands, in the eastern Cordilleras of Colombia , relate some of their tribal reminiscences to the time before there was a moon. “In the earliest times, when the moon was not yet in the heavens,” say the tribesmen of Chibchas. Since the time the Moon began to accompany the Earth, it has underwent the influence of contacts with comets and planets that passed near the Earth in subsequent ages. The mass of the Moon being less than that of the Earth, the Moon must have suffered greater disturbances in cosmic contacts. During these contacts the Moon was not carried away. This is due to the fact that no body more powerful than the Earth came sufficiently close to the Moon to take it away from the Earth for good; but in the contacts that prevously took place the Moon was removed repeatedly from one orbit to another. The variations in the position of the Moon can be read in the variations in the length of the month. The length of the month repeatedly changed in subseqent catastrophic events—and for this there exists a large amount of supporting evidence. In these later occurrences the Moon played a passive role, and Zeus in the Iliad advised it (Aphrodite) to stay out of the battle in which Athene and Ares (Venus and Mars) were the main contestants. Cf. Yu. B. Chernyak, “On Recent Lunar Atmosphere,” found “strong theoretical evidence of a considerable atmosphere on the Moon during the greater part of its history.” Tradition also has it that the Moon lost a large part of its light and became much dimmer than it had been in earlier ages. Many traditions persist that at some time in the past the Moon was much brighter than it is now, and larger in appearance than the Sun. In many rabbinical sources it is stated that the Sun and the Moon were equally bright at first. The same statement was made to de Sahagun by the aborigines of the New World: “the Sun and the moon had equal light in the past.” At the other end of the world the Japanese asserted the same: the Nihongi Chronicle says that in the past “the radiance of the moon was next to that of the sun in splendor.” In order that the Sun and the Moon should give off comparable light, the Moon must have had an atmosphere with high refracting power or it was much closer to the earth. In the latter case the Moon would have appeared larger than the Sun. In fact, the Babylonian astronomers computed the visible diameter of the Sun as only two-thirds of the visible diameter of the Moon. THE WORSHIP OF THE MOON Because of its size and also because of the events which accompanied the first appearance of the Moon, the ancient Babylonians regarded the Moon as the chief of the two luminaries, with the sun running secondary. The Assyrians and the Chaldeans referred to the time of the Moon-god as the oldest period in the memory of the people. 'Before other planetary gods came to dominate the world ages, the Moon was the supreme deity.' Such references are also found in the inscriptions of Sargon II (ca. -720) and Nabonidus (ca. -550). The Babylonian Sin—the Moon—was a very ancient deity: Mount Sinai also owes its name to Sin. The Moon, appearing as a body larger than the Sun, was endowed by the imagination of the peoples with a masculine role, while the Sun was assigned a feminine role. Many languages reserved a masculine name for the Moon. It was probably when the Moon was removed to a greater distance from the earth and became smaller to observers on the earth, that another name, usually feminine, came to designate the Moon in most languages. ANCIENT CATACLYSMS The horror our ancient ancestors experienced is beyond the imagination and some point of time in our future, man will again experience such events. Through the study of earth and planetary cycles we may survive just as our ancestors did. But survive to what way of life is another question. Geological evidence clearly indicates that physical disruptions of enormous magnitude have in the past imposed major alterations to the planet's geography, often submerging entire continental landmasses into the sea, raising others to become some of todays highest mountain ranges. This can be evidenced by the sea shells and skeletons of sea animals that have been found high in the Himalayas. Geological evidence also confirms that the great plains of the USA and Mexico to Alaska were at one time under the sea, as was today's eastern coast of America where the ocean once broke the 'Shores' of the Appalachian Mountains. There is similar evidence of changes in the Earth's axis. Tropical coral reefs have been discovered as far north as Spitzbergen in what is now the Polar Circle. These upheavals bring sudden climate changes. Coal deposits found in Antartica indicate that the area was once covered by forests. In 1799 frozen bodies of mammoths were discovered in the tundra of Siberia, their stomachs still containing freshly eaten grass and leaves that nowadays belong in regions a thousand or more miles to the south. The pyramid of Xochicalco, situated at an altitude of 5,395 feet above sea level, to the south-southwest of the city of Cuernavaca, four and a half miles from Tetlama, literally records out of its stone, the tremendous cataclysm which caused the submergence and destruction of its land and the population of 64,000,000 people , dating back , if we understand the dating right, about 11,500 years ago. Immanuel Velikovsky, Worlds in Collision, assembled numberous biblical and ancient historical references to such events, drawing substantially on contemporary accounts from the Middle East and Lower Mexico. He quotes , for example, a long inscription in hieroglypics on a shrine of black granite found at El-Arish on the border of Egypt and Palestine, "The land was in great affliction. Evil fell on this earth. There was a great upheaval in the residence. Nobody could leave the palace during nine days, and during these nine days of upheaval there was such a tempest that neither men nor gods couls see the faces of those beside them." This inscription corresponds exactly with the Bible's Exodus 10:22 "And there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. They saw not one another. Neither rose from this place for three days." The Babylonia, eleventh tablet of the 'Epic of Gilgamesh" refers to the same events: "From out of the horizon rose a dark cloud and it rushed against the Earth; the land was shrivelled by the heat of flames. Desolation stretched to heaven; all that was bright was turned into darkness. Nor could a brother distinguish his brother. For Six days the hurricane, deluge, and tempest continued sweeping the land , and all humans back to their clay were returned" The historian, Ipuwer , witnessed and survived this earthquake, recounting that; "The towns are destroyed, Upper Egypt has become a waste. All is in ruin . The residence was over turned in a minute." (Papyrus Ipuwer 2:11, 3:13) Velikovsky believes that the Earth was forced out of its regular motion by the close approach of a comet. The comet approach caused : a major shock which convulsed the lithosphere, which caused a 'global' earthquake. Terrific hurricanes swept the Earth brought on by the reverse of the angular velocity of rotation and sweeping gases, dust and cinders of the comet. He supports this contention of worldwide disruptions with similar quotations from historical Mexican records. According to the Mexican sacred book 'Popol-Vuh', the ' Manuscript Cakchiquel' and the 'Manuscript Troano', the mountains in every part of the Western Hemisphere simultaneously gushed lava. The volcanoes that opened along the entire chain of the Cordilleras and in other mountain ranges and on flat land vomited fire, vapour and torrents of lava. The Troano Manuscript and other Mayan documents describe a cosmic catastrophe during which the ocean fell upon the continent and a terrible hurricane swept the Earth. These records provide graphic accounts of hurricanes which broke up and carried away all towns and forests. Exploding volcanoes, tides sweeping over mountains, and raging winds threatened to annihilate the entire earth population of man and animal. (Many species of animal and sea life did perish along with a high per centage of the human population. ) The face of the Earth changed, mountains collapsed, others grew and rose over the onrushing cataract of water driven from oceanic spaces, numberless rivers lost their beds, and a wild tornado moved through the debris descending from the sky. The ancients referred to the physical agent that brought darkness and swept away houses and trees and even rocks and mounds of earth as 'Hurakan'' , from which our present word 'hurricane' is derived. It is recorded that Hurakan destroyed the major part of the human race . In the darkness swept by wind, resinous stuff fell from the sky and participated with fire on water in the destruction of the world. For five days, save for the burning naphtha and burning volcanoes, the sun did not appear and the world was in darkness. In Velikovsky's later book, 'Earth in Upheaval', he describes an area in Alaska , north of Mount McKinley , which has a frozen layer of 'muck' composed of a jumble of trees and extinct animals, such as the mammoth, mastodon and super bison. This was analyzed by Professor F.C. Hibben of the University of New Mexico who concluded the following: "There is ample evidence that at least portions of this material were deposited under catastropohic conditions. Mammal remains are for the most part dismembered and disarticulated, even though some fragments yet retain, in their frozen state, portions of ligaments, skin, hair and flesh. Twisted and torn trees are piled in splintered masses. At least four considerable layers of volcanic ash may be traced in these deposits, although they are extremely warped and distorted. "The presence of volcanic ash indicates that a volcanic eruption did take place, and repeatedly, in four consecutive stages of the same epoch; but it is also apparent that the trees could have been uprooted and splintered only by hurricane or flood or a combination of both. The animals could have been dismembered only by a stupendous wave that lifted and carried and smashed and tore and buried millions of bodies and millions of trees. Also, the area of the catastrophe was much greater than the action of a few volcanoes could have covered." During the late 1830s Hugh Miller made a special study of the Old Red Sandstone in Scotland, in which an abundant aquatic fauna is embedded. The animals embedded within it are seen in very 'disturbed' positions. Miller writes: " Some catastropohe involved in sudden destruction the fish of an area at least a hundred miles from boundary to boundary, perhaps more. The same plaform in Orkney, as at Cromarty, is strewed thick with remains, which exhibits unequivocally the marks of violent death. The figures are controted, contracted, curved; The tail in many instances is bent around the head; the spines stick out; the fins are spread to the full, as in fish that die in convulsions." In 1901 , a quick frozen mammoth was found in Berosovka, Siberia, so well preserved that its eyeballs were fullly intact. It still had buttercups in is mouth and the content of its stomach indicated that it had been eating temperate zone plants, no longer growing in the area. R.S. Lull, Director of the Peabody Museum at Yale, reports the discovery in his book, 'Organic Evolution' confirming that " ...a fractured hip and fore limb, a great mass of clotted blook in the chest, and unswalled grass between the clenched teeth, all point to the violence and suddenness of its passing." Rock geology shows that there have been major uplifts of land masses around the globe. The great mass of the Himalayas is estimated to have risen to its present heighth since the last Ice Age of over 11,000 years ago. Likewise the Andes in South America also show evidence of having been thrust upwards at this time. The stone city of Tiahunaco gives us evidence, through pictures on broken pottery, that man lived along with these large creatures . As such man endured the same traumatic events. Rocks of the earth are filled with remains of life extinguished in a state of agony. Sedimentry rocks are one vast graveyard and the granite and basalt, too, have embedded in them numberless living organism. Shells have closed valves as they do in living state, so unexpectedly came the entombment. Vast forest were burned and washed away and covered with the waters of the seas and with sand and turned to coal. Animals were swept to the far north and thrown into heaps and were soaked by bitumionous outpourings. Broken bones and torn ligaments and the skins of animals, both of living specieis and of extinct species, were smashed together with splintered forests into huge piles. " The Maoris narrate that amid a stupendous catastrophe the mighty winds, the fierce squalls, the clouds, dense, dark, fiery, wildly drifting , wildly bursting, rushed on creation....and swept away giant forests and lashed the waters into billows whose crests rose high like mountains. The Polynesians celebrate a god, Taafanua. In Arabic, Tyfoon is a whirlwind and Tufan is the Deluge and the same word occurs in Chinese as Ty-fong. According to Exodus 9:18, Following the red dust, a small dust, like ashes of the furnace fell in all the land of Egypt and then a shower of meteorites flew toward the earth. From the Midrashic and Talmudic sources hot stones which fell upon Egypt Ipuwere wrote. "Trees are destroyed. No fruits, no herbs are found . Grain has perished on every side". In the Book of Exodus 9:25, it is written. "And the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field." . In the Buddhist text, Visuddhi-agga, "When a world cycle is detroyed by wind...there arises ...a wind. First it raises a fine dust, then fine sand, the coarse sand, then grit, stones, up to boulders as large as trees." The Mexican Annals of Cuauhtitlan also describe how a cosmic catastrophe was accompanied by a hail of stones. THE COMET APPROACHES Crude petroleum is composed of two elements, carbon and hydrogen. The inorganic theory (of the origin of petroleum states that) hydrogen and carbon were brought together in the rock formations of the earth under great heat and pressure. The tails of comets are composed mainly of carbon and hydorgen gases. Lacking oxygen, they do not burn inflight, but the inflammable gases, passing through an atmosphere containing oxygen, will be set on fire, binding all the oxygen available at the moment. Through the ancient oral and written accounts we learn of the falling to earth of a sticky fluid which blazed with heavy smoke. In the sacred book of the Mayas, the Popol-Voh, we can read , "People were drowned in a sticky substance raining from the sky..and then there was a great ring of fire above their heads:. The entire population of the land was annihilated. A similar account is preserved in the Annals of Cuahtitlan . "The age which ended in the rain of fire was called "The Sun of Fire-Rain" . In Voguls of Siberia re-tell this ancient account, "God sent a sea of fire upon the Earth." The aboriginal tribes of the East Indies relate that in the remote past "water of fire" rained from the sky. With very few exceptions, all men died. The (Egyptian) payrus Ipuwer , "Gates, columns and walls are consumed by fire. The sky is in confusion." The Mexican sacred book, Popol-Vuh, the Manuscript Cakchiquel, the Manuscript Troano all record how the mountains in every part of the Western Hemisphere simultaneously gushed lava. The rivers steamed, and even the botton of the sea boiled here and there. The Zend -Avesta says "The sea boiled, all the shores of the ocean boiled, all the middle boiled." The traditions of the Indians also retain the memory of this boiling of the water in river and sea. The tribes of British Columbia tell "Great Clouds appeared...and such a great heat came, that finally the water boiled. People jumped into the streams and lakes to cool themselves and died." On the North Pacific Coast of America , the tribes insist that the ocean boiled. "It grew very hot..many animals jumped into the water to save themselves, but the water began to boil." The Indians of the Southern Ute tribe in Colorado also record in their legends of the boiling rivers. Jewish tradition, as preserved in the rabbinical sources, declares that the mire at the bottom of the Sea of Passage was heated. Hesoid in his Theogony, relating the upheaval caused by a celestrial collision, says " The huge earth groaned...A great part of the huge earth was scorched by the terrible vapor and melted as tin melts when heated by man's art...or as iron, which is the hardest of all things, is softened by glowing fire in mountain glens." According to Velikovsky, the The slowing down of the earth in its rotation would cause a tidal recession of water toward the poles, but the celestial body nearby would disturb this poleward recession causing the water to be drawn towards itself. It seems this may have happened, as the traditions of many people persist that the seas were torn apart and their water was heaped high and thrown upon the continents. The traditions of the people of Peru tell that, for a period of time when the sun was not in the sky, the ocean left its shores and broke over the continent. The Choctaw Indians of Oklahoma relate, " The earth was plunged into darkness for a long time. Finally a dark light appeared in the north, but it was mountain high waves, rapidly coming nearer. According to the Lapland Epic, after the sea wall fell on the continent , gigantic waves continued to roll and dead bodies were dashed about in the dark waters. The Hebrew story of the passage of the sea relates that the bottom of the sea was uncovered, the waters were driven apart and heaped up like walls in a double tide. The Sepuagint translation of the bible says that the water stood 'as a wall' and the Koran, referring to the event, says 'like mountains' . In the old rabbincial literature it is said that the water was suspended as if it were 'glass, solid and massive'. Continued |
